We really have something to offer you!

As well as financially supporting the museum, we see art education as an important, rewarding task. To get people excited about the museum, we not only support its many events, but also offer you an accompanying programme of presentations, visits to studios and exhibitions, and discussions. We get you talking to artists and art experts. We give you a glimpse behind the scenes, and also organise the highly popular last-minute Christmas market in the courtyard of Moritzburg Castle.

As an invited, privileged guest at the preview of big special exhibitions, you are the first to take a look at the new presentation and are afforded an exclusive insight into the museum’s work. Special tours guided by the museum director or the curators give you not only first-hand information, but also the chance to ask questions in person.

The events are free of charge for members.

No museum is without wishes – but often, wishes can only be fulfilled without outside help. Every museum’s collection defines its profile and is the source of ideas and projects. The aim is to raise that profile, fill gaps in its inventory, compensate for historical losses, react to developments and break new ground.

Donations & gifts

Moritzburg Art Museum, Halle an der Saale was founded in 1895 as a municipal museum of fine and decorative arts. Its foundation was the work of dedicated inhabitants of this town on the Saale river. To this day, donations and gifts play a significant role in increasing the inventory and adding to the collection. Since 2011, the Friends and Sponsors of Moritzburg Art Museum, Halle an der Saale have been devoted to examining this aspect of the museum’s history.

In 2017, the first publication came out to focus on the 1905 Reinhold Steckner endowment.

Restorations

The inscribed tombstone of Henning Hammel, the Benndorf altar, the altarpiece paintings from Löbnitz showing Christ Carrying the Cross and The Last Judgement Attended by Benefactors, along with many other prominent objects, were once in a deplorable state, but today their full beauty has been restored. The Friends and Sponsors of Moritzburg Art Museum, Halle an der Saale have been supporting the museum’s restoration projects since 2007.

Feininger walking tour

In 1929, Lyonel Feininger moved into his studio in the Moritzburg Castle gate tower, where he worked on his famous Halle series until 1931. With a walking tour through the town centre, marked by information monoliths, we have created the opportunity to discover the town from a new perspective, through Feininger’s eyes. After the tour, you can appreciate three of the eleven original paintings in the Moritzburg Art Museum, Halle an der Saale.
