We really have something to offer you!
As well as financially supporting the museum, we see art education as an important, rewarding task. To get people excited about the museum, we not only support its many events, but also offer you an accompanying programme of presentations, visits to studios and exhibitions, and discussions. We get you talking to artists and art experts. We give you a glimpse behind the scenes, and also organise the highly popular last-minute Christmas market in the courtyard of Moritzburg Castle.
As an invited, privileged guest at the preview of big special exhibitions, you are the first to take a look at the new presentation and are afforded an exclusive insight into the museum’s work. Special tours guided by the museum director or the curators give you not only first-hand information, but also the chance to ask questions in person.
The events are free of charge for members.
Neuerwerbungen durch Ankäufe und Schenkungen
No museum is without wishes – but often, wishes can only be fulfilled without outside help. Every museum’s collection defines its profile and is the source of ideas and projects. The aim is to raise that profile, fill gaps in its inventory, compensate for historical losses, react to developments and break new ground.
Acquisitions and financial support
Since 1990, the association has acquired works for the museum by Lyonel Feininger, Gustav Klimt, Gerhard Lichtenfeld, Gerhard Marcks, Carl Adolf Senff, Henry van de Velde, Gustav Weidanz and many others. It has helped the museum acquire works by Erich Heckel, Georg Kolbe and Gertraud Möhwald, along with international studio glass works from a private collection in Berlin.
In addition to financial contributions, donations of objects are also welcome. Members and non-members alike have donated mid-19th-century porcelain featuring views of Halle and the surrounding area, artists' books with original prints by Otto Dix, Lyonel Feininger, Erich Heckel, Max Pechstein and others, prints by Günther Uecker and Karl Schmoll von Eisenwerth, and works by artists connected to the University of Art and Design, based at Giebichenstein Castle in Halle.
Would you like to join us on a trip?
Our excursions and art trips take us both to artistic metropolises and to unknown territory. They broaden your view of the art business and museum work, and offer exclusive insights into other institutions of the fine arts. They bring you into contact with other museums and the artists represented there, while also enabling you to get to know those taking part in the trip and share ideas with them.
Over the years, destinations have included Basel, Berlin, Braunschweig, Chemnitz, Dresden, Gotha, Frankfurt, Meissen, Potsdam, Winterthur and Zurich. Participants are given an exclusive welcome and guided tours by specialists, making the excursions an intense, unforgettable art experience.
The 2020 programme includes excursions to the Barberini Museum in Potsdam, the Museumsinsel in Berlin, and the special exhibition on Max Slevogt and the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen in Hanover. An art trip to Vienna lasting several days is also in the works. Invitations will be sent out in good time.

Donations & gifts
Moritzburg Art Museum, Halle an der Saale was founded in 1895 as a municipal museum of fine and decorative arts. Its foundation was the work of dedicated inhabitants of this town on the Saale river. To this day, donations and gifts play a significant role in increasing the inventory and adding to the collection. Since 2011, the Friends and Sponsors of Moritzburg Art Museum, Halle an der Saale have been devoted to examining this aspect of the museum’s history.
In 2017, the first publication came out to focus on the 1905 Reinhold Steckner endowment.
The inscribed tombstone of Henning Hammel, the Benndorf altar, the altarpiece paintings from Löbnitz showing Christ Carrying the Cross and The Last Judgement Attended by Benefactors, along with many other prominent objects, were once in a deplorable state, but today their full beauty has been restored. The Friends and Sponsors of Moritzburg Art Museum, Halle an der Saale have been supporting the museum’s restoration projects since 2007.
